Low-Cost Spay & Neuter for Orange County Pet Owners
Affordable surgery at Pets Alive Indiana, just 45 minutes from Paoli via SR 37 North through Bedford
Orange County draws visitors from across the Midwest to French Lick and West Baden Springs — the grand resort hotels, the casino, the historic springs that once made this corner of Indiana famous. But behind the tourism, Orange County is a working rural community where families in Paoli, Orleans, and the smaller towns surrounding the French Lick area are looking for the same thing as everyone else: quality care for their pets without a bill that wipes out the week's budget. Pets Alive Indiana sits just 45 minutes north via SR 37 through Bedford, and we are here specifically for those families. Cats are $90, dogs are $130, and there is no income screening or residency requirement — if you live in Orange County and have a pet, you qualify.
Our clinic has been operating in Bloomington since 2005, and in that time we have completed more than 230,000 spay and neuter surgeries. That is not a rounding error — it represents two decades of consistent, focused work by a nonprofit that does one thing and does it extremely well. Families from Paoli and Orleans have been part of that story for years, driving up SR 37 through the limestone country of Lawrence County and arriving at a clinic with a 4.8-star Google rating and a staff that has seen every situation imaginable.
The drive from Paoli follows SR 37 North, which passes through Bedford before continuing into Bloomington — a scenic route through some of the most characteristic southern Indiana landscape you will find anywhere. Orleans residents can connect to SR 37 with minimal detour. Even families coming from the French Lick and West Baden area, while slightly further south, make the trip regularly. We recommend planning your drop-off for early morning so you can explore Bloomington's restaurants or shops while your pet is in surgery, then pick them up and head home with one important item checked off your list.

Frequently Asked Questions
About 45 minutes via SR 37 North through Bedford and into Bloomington. The route is well-marked and travels through Lawrence County before arriving in Monroe County. Orleans is a similar distance using the same corridor, and French Lick and West Baden Springs are about 15 minutes further south, adding a bit to the drive.
No. Pets Alive Indiana serves pet owners from across the state. There are no residency requirements and no income verification. Everyone is welcome, whether you live in Paoli, Orleans, French Lick, West Baden Springs, or anywhere else in Orange County.
Yes. We work with TNR (trap-neuter-return) caretakers and community cat programs throughout southern Indiana. Feral cats can be brought in a humane trap. Please contact us when scheduling so we can note that the cat is feral and ensure our team is prepared for the drop-off. Orange County has a significant outdoor cat population, and we are committed to helping manage it humanely.
We generally recommend that kittens and puppies be at least 8 weeks old and weigh a minimum of 2 pounds before surgery. For older pets, there is no strict upper age limit, but we may request a brief health assessment for very senior animals to ensure they are good surgical candidates. If you have a young litter or an older pet, feel free to call us at (812) 349-1349 to discuss your specific situation.
Plenty. Bloomington has a vibrant downtown with restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, and the Indiana University campus. B-Line Trail is a popular greenway for a walk. The Monroe County History Center and WonderLab Museum of Science are worth visiting if you have a few hours. Most of our clients from Orange County treat the trip as a half-day outing and enjoy exploring Bloomington while their pet is in our care.
We accept cash, credit cards, and debit cards. Payment is collected at drop-off on the day of surgery. We do not currently offer payment plans, but our prices — $90 for cats and $130 for dogs — are designed to be manageable for most families without financing. If cost is still a barrier, we encourage you to ask about any available assistance programs when you call or schedule online.
