Low-Cost Spay & Neuter for Bartholomew County Pet Owners
Affordable surgery at Pets Alive Indiana, just 20 minutes from Columbus via SR 46 West
Columbus is one of Indiana's fastest-growing cities, and with that growth comes a new generation of families bringing home cats and dogs. Whether you're in Columbus proper, out in Hope, or down in Elizabethtown, getting your pet spayed or neutered doesn't have to break the budget. Pets Alive Indiana is just a 20-minute drive west on SR 46 — a quick, familiar route that takes you straight into Bloomington to our clinic at 2444 S Walnut Street.
Since 2005, we've completed more than 230,000 spay and neuter surgeries as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) clinic. Bartholomew County pet owners consistently rate us 4.8 stars on Google because we offer real surgery performed by licensed veterinarians at prices that make the decision easy: cats are $90, dogs are $130. There are no income thresholds to qualify and no residency restrictions — any pet owner from Bartholomew County is welcome.
Columbus families driving SR 46 West will find us easy to reach, and the round trip is well under an hour of travel. Drop-off is at 8:00 AM and your pet goes home the same day. If you have a dog over 80 lbs, call us ahead to confirm — we handle larger dogs on a case-by-case basis, but most family pets in that size range qualify for our standard $130 rate.

Frequently Asked Questions
Pets Alive Indiana is about 20 minutes from Columbus via SR 46 West. Take SR 46 West out of Columbus and follow it directly into Bloomington — our clinic is at 2444 S Walnut Street, right off the main corridor. It's an easy, well-traveled route with no tricky turns, and most Columbus families make it a same-day round trip well within their morning.
No — there are absolutely no income requirements and no residency restrictions at Pets Alive Indiana. We serve pet owners from all across south-central Indiana, including Bartholomew County. Our low prices exist because we're a nonprofit focused on making spay and neuter surgery accessible to every family, not just those who qualify under a means-test program.
Both prices cover the full spay or neuter procedure performed by a licensed veterinarian, including anesthesia and monitoring during surgery. You can add a pain medication and recovery cone package for $20, which most owners find well worth it. If your cat is feral or a community cat, our TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) package is $60. We'll send you a complete list of what's included when you book your appointment.
Our standard dog rate of $130 applies to dogs under 100 lbs. If your dog is over 100 lbs, please call us at (812) 349-1349 before booking so we can confirm availability and pricing for your specific pet. Many larger dogs from Bartholomew County are handled at our clinic, and we'll give you a clear answer quickly.
Bring your pet in a secure carrier (for cats) or on a leash (for dogs), proof of a current rabies vaccine or we can administer one at the appointment, and your form of payment — we accept cash, card, and check. Most importantly, your pet should have had no food after midnight the night before surgery; small amounts of water are fine until you leave the house. Drop-off is at 8:00 AM and pick-up is later the same afternoon.
Our surgical clinic operates Monday through Thursday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. We're closed Friday through Sunday. For working families making the drive from Columbus or elsewhere in Bartholomew County, we recommend booking Monday or Tuesday slots — they tend to have the most morning availability. You can book online any time at our scheduling link or call us during business hours.
