Low-Cost Spay & Neuter in Bloomington
Right here in Bloomington — your local low-cost spay & neuter clinic
If you live in Bloomington, Pets Alive Indiana is your neighborhood clinic. We're located at 2444 S Walnut Street — no long drive, no highway trip, no planning around a distant appointment. Whether you're an IU student who adopted a cat during your first semester, a local family that just brought home a puppy from the Monroe County Humane Society, or a longtime Bloomington resident with an outdoor cat that needs to be spayed, we're right here. Cats are $90, dogs are $130, and there are no income requirements or residency restrictions of any kind.
Pets Alive Indiana has been operating in Bloomington since 2005 — more than 20 years as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) clinic serving this community and the region around it. In that time, we've performed more than 230,000 spay and neuter surgeries. Our 4.8-star rating on Google reflects what Bloomington pet owners consistently experience: professional, licensed veterinary care at a price that doesn't require budgeting for weeks in advance. This is what your neighborhood low-cost clinic should look like.
IU students in particular make up a meaningful part of our patient base — bringing in cats and dogs adopted during school, often without the resources to pay private vet prices. We're proud to serve that part of the community. And for local Bloomington families who've been putting off the procedure because of cost, we want you to know: the appointment is easier and more affordable than you might think. Drop off at 8:00 AM, your pet goes home the same afternoon, and our team is here to answer any questions between now and surgery day.

Frequently Asked Questions
Pets Alive Indiana is located at 2444 S Walnut Street in Bloomington — on the south side of town, easy to reach from most neighborhoods and from the IU campus area. Drop-off is at 8:00 AM on surgery days, Monday through Thursday. If you're coming from the north side of Bloomington, SR 45 or College Avenue south will get you to Walnut Street with no difficulty. Parking is available on-site at the clinic.
Yes, absolutely. Pets Alive Indiana has no residency requirements and no income requirements. Students from out of state who are living in Bloomington are fully welcome to book an appointment. Many IU students adopt pets during their time here and rely on our clinic to keep the cost of responsible pet ownership manageable on a student budget. You don't need to prove anything — just book your appointment and show up on surgery day with your pet.
There are no hidden fees. The $90 cat price and $130 dog price cover the complete spay or neuter surgical procedure by a licensed veterinarian, including general anesthesia and continuous monitoring during surgery. The one optional add-on is a post-operative pain medication and recovery cone package for $20, which we recommend and most owners choose. If your pet is not current on rabies vaccination, we can administer that at the clinic for an additional charge. Everything is disclosed upfront before you confirm your appointment.
Yes — we offer a TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) package for feral and community cats at $60 per cat. Bloomington has an active community cat population, and TNR is one of the most effective tools for managing it humanely. Bring the cat in a humane trap rather than a standard carrier. If you're managing a larger colony and need to bring multiple cats in, call us at (812) 349-1349 ahead of time to coordinate the logistics and make sure we have capacity on your preferred date.
We perform surgeries Monday through Thursday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The clinic is closed Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. For Bloomington residents, booking even a few days ahead is often sufficient for mid-week appointments, though spring tends to be our busiest season and slots fill quickly then. You can book online anytime through our scheduling link or call us during business hours at (812) 349-1349.
Your pet must not eat any food after midnight the night before surgery — this is a standard anesthesia safety requirement. Small amounts of water are fine until you leave the house. On surgery morning, bring your pet in a secure carrier (cats) or on a leash (dogs), and bring proof of a current rabies vaccination if you have it on hand. Drop-off is at 8:00 AM, and since you're local, you can simply go home or head to work and return for afternoon pickup. We'll contact you with a pickup window during the day.
