Low-Cost Spay & Neuter for Indianapolis Pet Owners
Affordable surgery at Pets Alive Indiana, just 1 hour south of Indianapolis on I-65
Indianapolis pet owners know what local vet clinics charge for spay and neuter surgery — it's typically $300 to $500, sometimes more. What many Indy residents don't know is that one hour south on I-65, Pets Alive Indiana performs the exact same procedure for $90 for cats and $130 for dogs. That's not a different quality of care. That's a licensed veterinarian performing surgery in a fully equipped nonprofit clinic that has done this work since 2005. No income requirements. No residency restrictions. Just an easy interstate drive and significant savings on a routine procedure your pet needs.
The I-65 corridor from Indianapolis to Bloomington is one of the smoothest drives in the state — four lanes, well-maintained, no complicated interchanges once you clear the south side of Indy. Most Indianapolis pet owners who make the trip for the first time comment that they expected it to feel like a burden and were surprised by how easy it actually was. Drop off at 8:00 AM, your pet goes into surgery with a team that's performed more than 230,000 procedures over more than 20 years, and you pick up a recovered animal the same afternoon. Rated 4.8 stars on Google by pet owners across Indiana who've experienced exactly that.
The math is straightforward. A dog spay at an Indianapolis-area vet clinic might run $350 to $450. At Pets Alive, it's $130. The savings on a single appointment are $200 or more — enough to cover gas, lunch in Bloomington, and still put money back in your pocket. For Indianapolis families who've been delaying the procedure because of cost, or who've been told they don't qualify for local low-income programs, this is the answer. No qualification process. No income thresholds. Any Indianapolis pet owner can book and come in.

Frequently Asked Questions
From Indianapolis, take I-65 South directly to Bloomington — the drive is approximately one hour under normal traffic conditions. The route is straightforward: I-65 South takes you out of the metro area and into Bloomington with no complicated interchanges. Once in Bloomington, our clinic is at 2444 S Walnut Street, easily accessible from the highway. If you're coming from the north side of Indianapolis, factor in 10 to 15 extra minutes to clear the metro area before traffic thins on I-65 South.
No. There are no income requirements and no residency requirements at Pets Alive Indiana. We do not ask for proof of financial need, household income documentation, or a Monroe County address. Our pricing is the same for every pet owner who books an appointment — $90 for cats, $130 for dogs — regardless of where in Indianapolis you live or what you earn. We're a nonprofit that keeps costs low structurally, and every pet owner benefits from that equally.
Pets Alive Indiana is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) clinic with a singular focus: spay and neuter surgery at the highest possible volume with the lowest possible cost to the pet owner. We don't operate a full general-practice facility with exam rooms, urgent care, or specialty services — we focus entirely on this one procedure. That specialization, combined with our nonprofit operating model and philanthropic support, allows us to charge $90 for cats and $130 for dogs while still employing licensed veterinarians and maintaining full surgical standards. Indianapolis private practices serve a broader scope of care and carry the overhead costs that reflect that.
Yes — many Indianapolis families turn surgery day into an enjoyable day trip. Drop off at 8:00 AM at 2444 S Walnut Street, then spend the morning on the B-Line Trail, grab breakfast or lunch at one of Bloomington's downtown spots, browse the local shops around Courthouse Square, or visit the IU Art Museum. We'll give you a pickup window in the afternoon and you'll be on I-65 North headed home well before dinner. You simply need to be reachable by phone during the day in case we need to contact you.
Bring your pet in a secure carrier (cats) or on a leash (dogs), proof of a current rabies vaccination if you have it — we can administer one at the clinic if not — and your payment in cash, card, or check. Your pet must not have eaten since midnight the night before surgery; small amounts of water are fine until you leave the house. Leave Indianapolis by 7:00 AM or earlier to arrive comfortably for 8:00 AM drop-off. We'll handle everything from there and have your pet ready for pickup the same afternoon.
Surgeries are performed Monday through Thursday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The clinic is closed Friday through Sunday. For Indianapolis pet owners, Monday and Tuesday appointments tend to work well for working families who can take a half-day. Book through our online scheduling system anytime — you can check real-time availability and confirm your slot without calling. We also take calls at (812) 349-1349 during business hours. Spring is our busiest season, so booking two to three weeks ahead is smart for Indianapolis families planning ahead.
